Arunachal Pradesh Govt. Directs Private Varsities to Follow UGC & AICTE Norms
The government instructed the varsities in a review meeting on the functioning of private varsities in the state on November 2, 2016.
The Government of Arunachal Pradesh has directed the seven private universities across the state to strictly follow the norms laid by University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The government asked the varsities to follow the same in a review meeting on the functioning of private varsities in the state on November 2, 2016. The meeting was chaired by Honchun Ngandam, Education Minister of Arunachal Pradesh.

The seven private universities which were instructed by the government are:-
- Apex Professional University, Pasighat
- Himalayan University, Chimpu
- Indira Gandhi Technology & Medical Science University, Ziro
- Arunachal Pradesh University of Studies, Namsai
- Venkateswara Open University, Lekhi
- Arunodaya University, Jollang
- North Eastern Technical University, Aalo

The government advised the universities to prove their credentials in quality education and directed them to keep away from practices often reported from the private universities in other parts of the country. The government stated that the varsities have to come up with permanent infrastructure for running the universities.
Recently, UGC has listed 21 universities as fake universities running in different parts of the country. Among them, Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of fake universities followed by Delhi. Hence, UGC has advised the students to check the recognition and affiliation before joining the private universities.
UGC has also issued strict guidelines to all the universities to take measures to curb the ragging menace. For this purpose, HRD Ministry has also allocated funds to take up anti-ragging campaigns.
