Aryabhatta College to Hold Vote to Decide on DUSU Enrollment
- The referendum is scheduled to take place on September 1, 2017.
- At least 75% of votes must be polled to the referendum to affiliate Aryabhatta College to DUSU.
Aryabhatta College, which is affiliated to the University of Delhi is going to hold a referendum (vote) on September 1, 2017, to make a decision on its affiliation with Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU). The authorities of the college are of the view that the referendum was necessary, as Ram Lal Anand (evening) College turned into the morning session and was re-christened to Aryabhatta College during the academic session 2015-16. The college has already issued a notice regarding the referendum which has been scheduled for September 1, 2017, between 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
Mr. Manoj Sinha, Principal of Aryabhatta College revealed that the current strength of the college is 2,200 and at least 50% students must vote for a valid referendum. Similarly, out of total votes polled, 75% must vote on one side for a decision to be final.

Currently, Students Council, Disciplinary Committee and Support Committee of Aryabhatta College are engaged in educating students on the significance of participating in the referendum. As soon as the college administration issued a notice regarding the referendum, students belonging to different political outfits started pro-DUSU campaigns to persuade students to vote for affiliation to Delhi University Students’ Union or DUSU.

On the other hand, the college administration is taking extensive measures to ensure a fair referendum. Currently, 50 colleges of Delhi University are affiliated to DUSU or Delhi University Students’ Union. Around 30 colleges of DU do not have an affiliation to DUSU.
The polls of DUSU are scheduled on September 12, 2017, and students associated with it are busy in campaigns.
