<p>Automotive Skill Development Council (ASDC) of India is to offer skill oriented programme in &ldquo;Quality Assurance&rdquo; at the Amity University.

&ldquo; In India, majority of the people suffer from &lsquo;DWJ-JWD Syndrome&rsquo; which means &ldquo;Degree Without Job and Job Without Degree&rdquo;. Most of the people in India with Degrees, do not have Jobs and those who have Jobs, do not have relevant Degree or Training in the same field. The mis-match is of huge proportion in India, as compared to Germany and Japan where over 75% of people have jobs matching their education and training. In India, students choose programmes for fulfilling social objectives rather than their own career aspirations&rdquo;, said Dr. SK Chaturvedi, Chief Executive Officer, Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) India.
Dr Chaturvedi was speaking during the launch of skill oriented programme in the area of &ldquo;Quality Assurance&rdquo; for Undergraduate students by Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering, Amity School of Engineering &amp; Technology in association with Automotive Skill Development Council (ASDC) at Amity University, Sector-125, Noida.

Addressing the students, Dr. Chaturvedi asserted that in India, employability is much talked about issue especially with India having world&rsquo;s largest young population. He shared that being employable could help a person to fill up his stomach but wealth for India will be created through &ldquo;Innovation&rdquo; and the creation of &ldquo;Intellectual Property&rdquo;. He emphasized that the skill oriented programmes devised by ASDC will help in accelerating the pace of Innovations and R&amp;D in India.
Sharing his views on the importance of &ldquo;Industry Interaction&rdquo;, Dr. Chaturvedi opined that Industry Interaction should not be reduced to &ldquo;Industry Tourism&rdquo; wherein students visit Industry, look at new systems and procedures and come back to educational institutions, forgetting about everything. He proposed educational institutions to make Industry visits &ldquo;Project Oriented&rdquo; so that students could be engaged and learn the skills rather than just looking around.

Talking about the Automotive Industry, he shared that over 14% of Indian Automotive products are exported and numbers are increasing. Indian share of global automotive trade industry is meager 2-3%, offering lot of scope for expansion in years to come along with the creation of lot of job opportunities for the youth.

Rajiv Malhotra, Vice President, Motherson Techno Tools Ltd. appreciated skill oriented programme launched by Amity and ASDC and expressed that the programme will go a long way in preparing Amity students as per the requirements of industry and it will brighten their employment prospects.

Lt Gen PD Bhargava, Group Dy Vice Chancellor thanked ASDC and Dr SK Chaturvedi for their immense support and cooperation in launching the programme.

Prof Vivek Kumar- HoD, Mechanical and Automation Engineering Department provided a brief overview of the Programme and informed that 250 students have enrolled for the same.

Also present during the occasion were Prof (Dr) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Prof. K M Soni- Deputy Dean, Engineering and Technology Domain, Prof. Abhay Bansal- Joint Acting Head, Amity School of Engineering and Technology and other faculty members from Mechanical and Automation Engineering.
