Assam Government to Appoint 13,000 teachers in Schools & Colleges

In a statement made on December 18, 2016, the Assam government said that it will recruit more than 13,000 teachers for various schools and colleges across the state. The step has been taken to fill the vacancies in these institutions in the beginning of 2017.

Addressing the gathering at an appointing ceremony, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Education Minister of Assam said that over 13,000 teacher’s posts will be filled in the coming few months in order to fill the vacancies. The minister handed appointment letters to 73 teachers who have been recruited for higher secondary school.

Talking about the recruitment plan, Sarma said that 11,000 teachers for primary schools will be appointed in the month of January. He further stated that the state government is also talking with the central government to relax the norms in order to recruit 27,000 teachers for the next phase.

In his address, the minister also informed that another 1,287 subject teachers will be given appointment letters in the coming two months. At a college level, the state government is trying to fill 229 posts of lecturers by the end of January 2017. This will ensure that the teaching posts in colleges are not lying vacant.

Currently, 700 higher secondary schools in Assam do not have principals. The minister also informed that principals will be appointed by the government for these schools that are currently being run by in-charge principals.
