Recently, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced that Aadhar is mandatory for the candidates appearing for Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main 2017. However, the directive of CBSE has flummoxed youngsters in Assam as the state has not been included in Aadhar network yet. The application process for Aadhar card will only begin after the completion of the ongoing process to update the National Register of Citizens (NRC). So far, none of the residents in Assam received their Aadhar card.

The application process for JEE (Main) 2017 examination will begin from December 1, 2016, and the engineering aspirants in the state have no idea what to do. Hence, students had approached CBSE to resolve the issue. According to sources, a new notification might come up which exempts engineering aspirants of Assam from the Aadhar Card rule.

JEE (Main) is an entrance examination that is being conducted for the admission to engineering courses at Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs). However, the candidates who want to seek admission in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and ISM-Dhanbad have to take another exam, i.e., JEE (Advanced). The JEE (Main) examination is scheduled to be held on April 2, 2017.

In the past couple of years, thousands of students have appeared for JEE (Main) from Assam. Therefore, it is time for CBSE to take immediate steps for exempting engineering aspirants in Assam from Aadhar rule.
