Australia Awards AU$ 1.1 Million Scholarships to Indian Research Students

Eleven students from TERI-Deakin Nano Biotechnology Centre (TDNBC) located in Gurgaon have been awarded a tuition fee waiver worth AU$ 1.1 million for three years by the government of Australia. Simon Birmingham, Education and Training Minister of Australia made this announcement during his visit to TDNBC, Gurgaon.

The Ph.D. students who are engaged in research programmes at TDNBC or TERI-Deakin Nano Biotechnology Centre were awarded scholarships. All these students are enrolled at Deakin University under DIRI or Deakin India Research Initiative. The launching of DRI initiative took place in 2009 and DIRI has been playing a significant role in building world-leading expertise in biotechnology, nanotechnology and material sciences since its inception.

Simion Birmingham revealed that the purpose of the visit was to celebrate the Indo-Australian research and academic alliance. The TDNBC has become incredible not because of the support received from Deakin University but the knowledge that is being embedded and students who realise the potential of it in different ways.

Details about the Programme: -

• Through this initiative, the students will get the entire tuition fee waiver from the Deakin University. The students will receive the amount worth AU$ 100,000 for three years.
• The students will get a chance to visit Deakin University located in Australia, stay there for six to eight months, and work closely with their supervisors.
• The programme will meet the requirement of preparing a skilled workforce in the field of nanotechnology and biotechnology.
• The programme will also give exposure to Indian research students and enable them to share ideas with international experts in the field.
