Australian University Introduces Scholarship Named After Superstar Shah Rukh Khan
Australia's La Trobe University has launched a new scholarship named after the Indian superstar, Shah Rukh Khan. The scholarship is for the female students of India who wish to pursue research.
The La Trobe University of Melbourne in Australia has announced a scholarship in the name of Indian superstar, Shah Rukh Khan. On 9th August 2019, Friday, the university declared that this new scholarship is being launched for all the aspiring female researchers of India. The Shah Rukh Khan Ph.D Scholarship offered at the La Trobe University aims at inspiring the female researchers of India to undertake research in order to help in finding solutions for the growing challenges of our time.
The scholarship covers a duration of four years and is being launched under Shah Rukh Khan’s name in recognition of the actor’s dedication to the empowerment of women. The MEER Foundation started by the actor is a step towards helping women who have been treated unfairly by forming a network of support. Ever since its inception, the MEER Foundation has been growing significantly and reaching more women every day.
Apart from this, the La Trobe University also awarded Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) with an Honourary Degree of Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) for his efforts and contributions towards the empowerment women and underprivileged children through his foundation. Besides the achievements he has embarked upon in the Indian entertainment industry, Shah Rukh Khan has also taken major significant steps for uplifting the underprivileged.

SRK expressed his gratitude on the honour bestowed upon him by the university and said that as a passionate advocate for the empowerment and equality of women, he was extremely delighted that this scholarship that is introduced in his name is going to provide an Indian woman with a chance to pursue research in a field that is likely to lead her towards a successful career. He thanked the La Trobe University wholeheartedly for having given someone such a wonderful opportunity.
The Shah Rukh Khan scholarship will support a student for four years with a value in excess of $200,000. The research is to be completed at La Trobe University’s state-of-the-art facilities in Melbourne.
