Awards to be given to 86 Economically Weak Students who Scored Well in 12th Board

In an attempt to encourage students from the weaker sections of the society to pursue education, CBSE has awarded 86 such students for scoring good marks in class 12 board exams. All these students have performed commendably despite the challenges in their lives.

These 86 students were facilitated by the CBSE on June 13, 2017, in an annual event called ‘Gun Gaurav’. The students were awarded by the Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar.

Motivating the students further, Javadekar spoke at the event and said that education is a means to empower and gives the students hope to pursue their dreams. He praised the students and added that these students are a proof that education is inspirational.

Out of the 86 students, 45 were from various government and government-aided schools. Another 31 students were from Kendriya Vidyalayas and most of them scored above 95 per cent. The remaining 10 students were from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and scored above 88% marks.

Talking about the procedure of shortlisting these students, a CBSE official said that these 86 students have been selected on the basis of the range of marks obtained and income criteria that have been set by the internal committee.

According to the data collected up to March 31, 2017, CBSE has 18,694 schools affiliated to it in India. Other than that, it has another 211 schools affiliated to it in 25 foreign countries.

Among these schools, there are 2,720 government and aided schools, 1,117 Kendriya Vidyalayas, 590 Jawahar Novodaya Vidyalayas, 14,253 independent schools along with 14 central Tibetan schools.
