Ayush to Conduct Ph. D Programmes in Ayush Disciplines: UGC
Nodal higher education body UGC has asked all the central universities across the country, to begin a doctorate degree programmes under Ayush discipline.
The much ignored traditional medicine course are now a research scholars' subject for doctorate programmes as the nodal higher education body UGC has asked all the central universities across the country to begin a doctorate degree programmes under Ayush discipline.

Recently Ayush Ministry had written a letter to University Grant Commission and requested it to issue an advisory to educational institutions on it. In turn Ayush Ministry has announced Ph. D programmes in Ayush disciplines from the concerned research council.
The research councils want to extend research opportunities through Ph. D fellowship programme for the development of Ayush. The research councils conduct clinical and basic research studies in the following areas like:
- Ayurvedic Sciences
- Yoga and Naturopathy
- Homoeopathy
UGC has directed ll central universities to set up a system for candidates' enrolment in the Ph. D programme. And also asked to provide them with an opportunity to avail fellowship from the concerned research council. At first, the councils will sponsor 200 candidates, 75 of Science and technology streams, 125 postgraduate of Ayush for pursuing PhD on Ayush research topics.

It was on November 9th, 2014 that the Ministry of AYUSH formed. The main motive was to ensure the optimal development, as well as propagation of AYUSH systems of health care. Before that it was known as the Department of Indian System of Medicine and Homeopathy (ISM&H) and had its beginning in the year March 1995. Later on, in November 2003 , it was renamed as Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH). Now Ayush focuses its attention for development of Education and Research in Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Yoga and Naturopathy and Homoeopathy.
