10-Year Backlog of Training Primary School Teachers Cleared - HRD Minister Javadekar

A decade long backlog training of 14 lakh untrained primary teachers in India has finally been cleared, as stated by Human Resource and Development Minister Prakash Javadekar. The primary teachers were supposed to complete their Diploma in Elementary Education or D.El.Ed programme long ago. However, the backlog has been carried forward since 2009.

He had congratulated all the teachers who had completed the programme via Twitter stating that educating the teachers is the key to reforming the education system in India. He further stated that the backlog that had been accumulating over the years since the RTE act was passed for the training of the primary teachers in 2009, has now been completed.

He congratulated the HRD Ministry and the officials of NIOS along with the staff and teachers from over 70 colleges and institutions who had worked hard in making this ‘rare feat’ possible. The Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.ED) was created in such a way that the in-service untrained primary school, as well as the upper primary school teachers, from all over India, received the necessary training that is required to provide children with the best possible education at a young age.

The programme had been put developed by the Academic Department of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). The initiative for the project had been undertaken by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development keeping in mind the Right To Education 2009 as well as the National Curriculum Framework 2005 and the National Curriculum Framework for Teachers 2010.
