Bangalore Central University likely to Introduce 5-year Integrated Science Course
- BCU will start offering 5-year integrated course comprising a general B.Sc. degree in science and an M.Sc. specialization.
- This course will interest students who are keen on pursuing a career in science.
The new Bangalore Central University (BCU) is planning to introduce a 5-year integrated science course at the Central College campus of the university. The new integrated course will offer a general B.Sc. degree in science and an M.Sc. specialization. As per S Japhet, Vice- Chancellor of BCU, the university is yet to take a decision whether the students will have an option to leave the integrated course midway with a bachelor’s degree.
BCU has contacted and consulted few professors from the Indian Institute of Science regarding this matter. The VC added that this course will interest students who are keen on pursuing a career in science. He also said that the final decision on the matter is yet to be taken by Board of Studies.

Bangalore Central University has already applied for 20 new departments. However, they are yet to be approved by UGC. Once its done, these departments will start from the next academic session such as degrees in public policy, media studies, urban studies, digital media studies, animation among others.

They have also proposed the department of skill development and entrepreneurship which is to offer both bachelors and masters degree in the field of vocational studies. As the main aim of the BCU is to focus on soft and hard skills for better job opportunities and enhance employability. As of now, 6 colleges under BCU are offering courses in vocational studies.
