Bangalore University Introduces CBCS for UG/ PG Courses
Bangalore University has introduced the Choice Based Credit System for the UG and PG courses. The step has been taken so as to help the student choose the course that they wish to study along with the course that taken admission in.
Bangalore University (BU) has declared that they will be following the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). Bangalore University states that they have restructured both the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that they offer for the aspiring students. This will help the students choose other subjects apart from their regular course.
Vice-Chancellor Bangalore University K R Venugopal informed that restructuring undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to accommodate the CBCS system will help in guiding the University to be at par, in terms of the academic norms and the evaluation strategies with all the other Global Universities.
Many Technical Universities, such as Visvesvaraya College of Engineering(UVCE) among others, have implemented the Choice Based Credit System that has resulted in helping the student choose the subject that they wish to study along with the course they have been given admission to. Visvesvaraya College of Engineering is one of the few colleges that has implemented the CBCS system. They have recently completed one semester with the new system that they put in place.

The Registrar of Bangalore University, B K Ravi said that CBCS will help the student choose the subject of their choice. This will not only help them complete the credits they need and they will be attending the classes for both the regular courses and courses that they choose. Officials from UVCE have stated that students tend to take up courses from other streams apart from their regular courses. The registrar of BU also stated that the students can take up courses from other streams such as political science, society and media as well as languages which are on offer for the students to choose from the pool of optional streams at Bangalore University.

Banglore University has also stated that the subjects and courses that the students choose under the Choice Based Credit System would become compulsory for them to attend. These subjects, once chosen, would be considered important and part of the Degree.
