Bar Council of India (BCI) Introduces Changes in AIBE Examination Syllabus

In a move towards value addition, Bar Council of India (BCI) has brought certain changes to its existing syllabus for the next All India Bar Examination (AIBE). AIBE exam conducted by BCI is to be held on 26th March 2017.

However there is no notification regarding the same, but in the syllabus link, it can be observed that several new topics have been added while some have been omitted.

Four new subjects have been added to the new syllabus. These are-

  • Law Related to Taxation
  • Public Interest Litigation
  • Intellectual Property Law
  • Land Acquisition Act

About 12 questions are expected to be based on these newly introduced topics which the candidates will need to answer. Additionally, areas and subjects like Jurisprudence, Environmental Law, Limitation Act, and Corporate Social Responsibility will be given due weightage in the All India Bar Examination. Moreover, the marks allotted to questions related to Family Law has been increased to 8, making it very important.

All India Bar Examination (AIBE) is one of the prestigious examinations in the country to examine an advocate's capability to practice the profession of law in the country.

Through the examination, it is expected that the skills of the candidates at the basic level will be assessed in order to set the minimum bench mark for the candidates. The exam also seeks to highlight a candidates' analytical skills and primary knowledge of the law.

If a candidate is able to clear the exam, he/she will be offered certificates that will allow them or enable them to practice law at the court.
