The Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) is going to organise a seminar on "Developing Skills To Manage Stress" as the level of tolerance among students for each other's culture, tradition, region, religion has shown significant degradation recently.
Recently two Dalit students of the university had raised slogans against PM Narendra Modi while the Prime Minister addressed the annual convocation on 22 January 2016. The workshop-cum-counselling session is to be organised on April 12 for students of BBAU, and there will be 50% reservation for Dalit students in the seminar.
According to the reports, though a written statement from the university mentions that the "workshop is the brainchild of BBAU V-C RC Sobti," sources said that directives to hold counselling session by experts had come from the Union HRD ministry in a meeting of vice-chancellor's held in February.
Sudarshan Verma, who is coordinating the session, said , "The idea is to help relieve students from stress in the right manner. Students nowadays have become intolerant, and they react without understanding the problem. This often leads to depression. Many take the extreme step and commit suicide,'' adding that the counselling session is meant for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The counselling session will help students in coping different pressures like the pressure to make a good career and get the respectable job. The counselling session believes officials will reduce depression and increase the confidence level among students.
The counselling session will see Prof DS Chauhan from GLA University, Mathura, as the chief guest while Prof Jitendra Mohan from Punjab University, Chandigarh will be the keynote speaker.
