Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University Granted Autonomy Status by UGC
- Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University (BVDU) has been granted autonomy status by the UGC on 19th June.
- The autonomy will provide BVDU with the freedom to introduce new courses, start new research projects, campus centers etc.
The Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University (BVDU) has been granted an autonomy status by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The grant of autonomy status will provide the university with the freedom to introduce new courses, skill development programs, establish off-campus centers, start new research projects and new campuses on its own.
Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University is among the 60 universities across the country that have been granted autonomy status by the UGC this year. Shivajirao Kadam, Vice-Chancellor, BVDU said that the varsity received the letter regarding the autonomy status on 19th June. The letter was lying pending with the ministry for a long time due to some unforeseen circumstances. The UGC decided to award graded autonomy along with six other colleges and universities in the country.

The grade autonomy status is a great achievement for the varsity as they can now hire foreign faculty, conduct foreign exchange programmes, introduce distance learning courses and collaborate with various other institutions for academics and research projects. As per the reports, the NAAC score for BVDU is 3.53. According to the regulations, autonomous universities with a NAAC score of 3.26 and above have the freedom to introduce a new course and department with their own funding and do not require UGC’s approval for the same.

Apart from this, BVDU is doing well in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) as well. In the ranking for 2018, it was ranked 66. To improve its ranking, the university is planning to introduce water management, rainwater harvesting, improve the infrastructure and air quality monitoring systems. BVDU has also collaborated with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for BBA and B.Tech programmes. Candidates who register for these courses will be hired by the company.
