Bihar State Exam Board (BSEB) has become the centre of controversy once again after various students of the board who cleared the JEE Main exam failed to pass the class 12 exams. This development has confounded many as JEE Mains is considered to be one of the toughest exams in the country and has only 1% acceptance rate.

Students qualifying JEE Mains and failing in Class 12 board exam has raised various questions regarding the quality of BSEB education. The image of the board has been tarnished ever since the Topper’s Scam came out in open in 2016.

Despite the strict corrective measures introduced by the BSEB there have been reports of faulty corrections and unexpected toppers. However, the pass percentage in 2017 has dropped down to 35.25%, whereas, in 2017 it was 62.19%.

Various students who cleared the JEE Mains exams and didn’t pass the class 12 exams are protesting in front of BSEB office.

Vivek Kumar appeared for BSEB class 12 exams in 2017 and informed that he cleared JEE Main 2017 with a score of 109 out of 360. Being a reserved category student, he was allowed to appear for the JEE Advanced exam for admission to IITs as the cut-off was 49 marks.

Vivek failed in class 12 exam as he scored only 12 out of 60 in Physics and 17 out of 60 in Chemistry, both theory exams. He claims that he did well in both the exams and could not have failed.

Another such student was Shubam Sharma who secured category rank of 78,000 but couldn’t clear the Class 12 exams as he scored 6 out of 60 in Physics.

Ompriya, another BSEB student, cleared an entrance exam conducted by one of the top marine engineering colleges, but failed in Chemistry, scoring 34 marks out of 100.

Anand Kishore, BSEB Chairman, has also stated that the copies will be analysed again during ‘scrutiny’. Students will have to apply for scrutiny from June 3 to June 12, 2017.
