Bombay HC Hearing on JEE Main 2023 Postponement: Check Date, Important Highlights

JEE MAIN 2023: A PIL has been filed in the Bombay High Court against the National Testing Agency, challenging its December 15th JEE Main 2023 Session 1 notification on December 26. The PIL was filed by activist lawyer Anubha Srivastava Sahai. It also challenges the 75% admission criteria introduced this year. As per the latest update in the case, the Bombay HC has fixed the hearing date as January 04, 2023.

The petitioner, Sahai, today, on January 02, mentioned the case before the Chief Justice of Bombay HC as the Judge has agreed to hear it on January 04. The plea demands the postponement of JEE main 2023 on the basis of:

• The short notice by the NTA

• Clash with pre-boards and board external practical examinations

• Extension of last year’s counselling to November first week

If the judgement is made in favour of Sahai, JEE Main 2023 will be postponed to April 2023 or any other convenient date. If not, it will be conducted as scheduled from January 24 to 31. Also, a separate judgement will be made on the 75% eligibility criteria, as it is also cited under the same case. The reasons arguing against it, as mentioned in the case, is the assessment method used by the boards during the pandemic years 2020-21 and 2021-22. The students of these batches were assessed based on their previous Class 10/11 performances, thus putting them at a disadvantage.

Even before the declaration of JEE Main 2023 dates, aspirants have been demanding the first session to be held in April instead of January, because of the same reasons quoted above. Aspirants have also written to Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, seeking the postponement of the exam.
