Bombay High Court: Uniform Mechanism Required for Admissions
The Bombay High Court has said that the Maharashtra government needs to have a uniform mechanism of the admission process for students in all its universities and colleges.
According to Bombay High Court, Maharashtra government must have a uniform mechanism to streamline the admission process for all the students in universities across the state.
A bench of Justices M S Karnik and B R Gavai observed that there is a lot of chaos in the admission process in the universities of the state. The hearing was filed by two students who challenged the decision of two different colleges of the state for refusing them admission to a masters programme in law.
According to the petition filed by the students, a university had mentioned marks scored by them in the final year of their graduation instead of the average marks secured by them in their three-year degree programme. The bench of Justices noted that there is a lot of chaos and confusion in the admission procedure of the universities and colleges.
The court noted that students suffer due to the disparity in the admission process. In some universities of the state, the marks obtained in the last year of graduation are considered whereas some varsities in the state consider the average of the total marks scored in all the years of three year degree programme.

Therefore, the bench said all universities should follow one uniform mechanism for the admission process instead of the hyper-technical approach. It has also asked the colleges to grant the petitioners admission.
