Cabinet Approves AIIMS in Jammu & Kashmir and Gujarat
The Central Government has approved for setting up three new All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Pulwama and Samba Districts of Jammu & Kashmir and Rajkot in Gujarat.
The Central Government has approved for setting up All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Jammu & Kashmir and Gujarat. The central government has officially announced that the establishment of AIIMS in these states would take place under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). The three new AIIMS will be constituted in Pulwama and Samba Districts of Jammu & Kashmir and the Rajkot District of the Gujarat State.
The statement from the Centre also denoted that the setting up of new AIIMS is with a motive to establish AIIMS as associations of national value. It will also promote and provide quality healthcare, along with proper and standard facilities for nursing education and medical research and education in the surrounding areas. This initiative will invite more aspirants to become doctors and medical professionals of growing India.

The new AIIMS will constitute teaching blocks for nursing and medical courses, multi-specialty hospitals, residential blocks and other facility centres. The idea is to replicate the pattern and structure of AIIMS Delhi as prescribed in the Phase-I of PMSSY. The expected duration of the completion of the AIIMS building in Jammu has been calculated to be 48 months whereas, for AIIMS in Kashmir, the expected duration is of 72 months. The AIIMS in Gujarat will, however, be completed in next 45 months duration.

According to the issued statement from the Central Government, all the three new AIIMS will add about 100 MBBS seats along with 60 seats for B.Sc. Nursing and about 15-20 Super Specialty Departments. The three AIIMS are also expected to handle 1500 OPD cases on a daily basis and 1000 IPD cases on a monthly basis.
