Cabinet Gives Nod for IIM in Jammu and Out-Campus in Kashmir
Javadekar expressed his happiness as the 20th IIM of the country has been approved by the Cabinet.
The Union Cabinet has given the nod for establishment of Indian Institute of Management in Jammu. The academic session will commence from this year. On the other hand, the out-campus in Kashmir will be established later. The Cabinet approved the decision under the Prime Minister’s development package for the state.
HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar revealed that the Cabinet has also approved Rs. 100 crore fund for the development of infrastructure in NIT-Srinagar Campus. He also said that Rs. 50 crore has been approved for the construction of seven hostels for girl students, three in Jammu region, three in Valley and one in Leh.

The Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the establishment of IIM-Jammu in a temporary campus at Old Government College of Engineering and Technology from the academic session 2016-17.

The proposed budget for the project will involve a cost of Rs. 61.90 crore in the temporary campus for the initial four years, i.e., 2016-2020. The student intake for the Post Graduate Diploma Programme (PGDP) in Management is 54 and will be increased to 120 in the fourth year.
Javadekar expressed his happiness as the 20th IIM of the country has been approved by the Cabinet. He further added that the detailed project report for the permanent campus is under preparation and the process of setting up of the campuses would commence after that. He thanked the state government of Jammu & Kashmir for providing land for the construction of both IIT and IIM.
