Calcutta University B.Tech and M.Tech Exams to be Conducted in Online Mode
According to the VC of Calcutta University, the decision to conduct the semester exams for B.Tech and M.Tech specializations have been taken after the students agreed to show up for the online examination.
Calcutta University has decided to conduct the B.Tech and M.Tech semester examinations in online mode due to the uncertainty regarding reopening of the affiliated colleges and conducting the semester exams in pen and paper mode. The decision was taken by Calcutta University’s Faculty Council for Post Graduate Studies in Engineering and Technology. The parameters on which the students of Calcutta University will be assessed are laboratory performance, teacher assessment, assignments, online interactions, end-semester interview, viva voice, seminar attendance & performance and projects.
Sonali Chakravarty, the Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University said that all the resolutions which were adopted by the Council on the 03rd of June regarding conducting the B.Tech and M.Tech examinations in the month of July have received a nod form her end. She added that the COVID-19 crisis has pushed the University to think outside of the box and conduct the B.Tech and M.Tech semester exams in electronic mode.
Guidelines for Calcutta University Online Exams for B.Tech and M.Tech
- The semester exam papers will be differentiated into three categories.
- In the first category, the students will be asked to submit a presentation, seminar report or project via email at least seven days prior to the examination begins.
- The interview part will be conducted either via video call or telephonic call.
- In the second category, which will include theoretical papers, 40% marks from the interview, 30% from the teacher’s assessment and 30% from mid-semester exams will be taken into consideration.
- The third category includes the practical portion where the end-semester interview performance and daily lab performance will be given equal weighatge, i.e 50-50.

The VC also assured everyone that the decision to hold the exams in online mode has received a go-ahead from the student section as well who have assured the University of their participation.
