Calicut University to Start PhD Admissions Only after Complying with UGC Rules
It is mandatory for the varsity to adopt and implement the new regulations as UGC specified that the new regulations apply to all universities.
The syndicate standing committee on ‘Courses and Research’ of Calicut University announced that it would not publish the notification for the admission to PhD courses unless the university implements the new research regulations issued by University Grants Commission (UGC) in the month of June.
For this purpose, the standing committee has recommended to convening a meeting to discuss and adopt new UGC minimum standards and procedure for award of PhD & M.Phil Regulations 2016. Currently, various provisions of varsity’s research regulations were in violation of new UGC regulations.

It is mandatory for the varsity to adopt and implement the new regulations as UGC specified that the new regulations apply to all universities.
On the other hand, the UGC also directed that the degree-awarding institution shall specify in the PhD degree certificate that it has been awarded in compliance with provisions of UGC Regulations 2016.
Hence, the standing committee for courses and research has recommended syndicate that PhD admissions will commence only after the university update its regulations.
