Registration for national eligibility-cum-entrance test (NEET-2) will end on 25th June. The closing date for registration is coming closer and CBSE has yet to release the answer keys of NEET-1. As a result of this, candidates are experiencing a sense of unease as they don’t know whether to apply for NEET-2 or not. Reason being that marks scored in NEET-1 need to be forfeited in order to be applicable for NEET-2.

Various requests have been send to CBSE by parents and academicians via emails, asking them to release the answer key. These answer keys will help students to evaluate their exact score, which will further determine whether they should apply for NEET-2 or not. Requests to extend the last date of registration have also been made.

Despite of indecision on behalf of the Supreme Court, NEET-1 was conducted. Subsequent to the decision, the apex court declared that candidates who had appeared for NEET-1 could also apply for NEET-2 in order to give them a chance to perform better. Applying for NEET-2 would mean that students will have to give up their candidature for NEET-1 as per the orders of Supreme Court.

Gandharv Sharma, an applicant said, "I have done well but since there were objections, I am not sure how much I will score. If I had the answer key, I would have been sure about the decision. There is a possibility that NEET-2 may be difficult and I might not be able to score much. In this case, I will be at the losing end."

Sangeeta Khanna, a city-based academician said that candidates are confused as they are not certain about the results. She said that this confusion is because students are not sure about their performance. This is the reason why they are asking CBSE to upload filled OMR sheet of all the candidates that can be viewed by them separately all the while being able to access the answer key of NEET-1. The academician also said that since 25th June is not very far off, CBSE should act quickly and extend registration till June 30.

This is a very stressful time for students, especially those who have not applied for any other exam apart from NEET. There are states that do not conduct a PMT entrance exam and students in these states are solely dependent on the NEET results, making them more anxious about their performance in NEET. Some of them have already surrendered their scores without knowing them and have applied for NEET-2, which will be held on 24th July.
