The CAT 2021 exam was successfully conducted on November 28, 2021. Every year, the IMS CAT Coaching institute releases a detailed and section-wise analysis of the CAT exam. The key details covered in the CAT 2021 Analysis by IMS are the difficulty level, question & topic distribution, subject weightage etc. CAT 2021 exam analysis for all three slots has also been released by IMS and the same has been shared below.

CAT 2021 Exam Timings
CAT 2021 will be conducted in 3 different slots. The reporting time, exam time and individual analysis of each slot have been given below:

CAT 2021 Analysis by IMS: A Quick Glimpse
The exam pattern of CAT 2021 was slightly different from last year. A total of 76 questions were asked in CAT 2020 while CAT 2021 only had a total of 66 questions that students had to attempt in the duration of 2 hours. CAT 2021 had 24 questions in VARC, 20 questions in DILR and 22 questions in the QA section. Also, the sectional time limit was 40 minutes.
CAT 2021 Slot 1 & 3 had a total of 47 MCQs and 19 Non-MCQs while CAT 2021 Slot 2 had a total of 48 MCQs and 18 Non-MCQs. Students must note that 3 marks will be awarded for every correct answer while 1 mark will be reduced for every incorrect MCQ. No marks will be deducted for wrong non-MCQs.

Highlights:
- RCs in VARC were difficult and were based on topics like Utopia, Dystopia, Mayan Civilization, Marshmellow Theory and the Thirst Empire - Chinese Tea.
- The para jumbles and para summaries had a moderate difficulty level whereas the questions based on out of context sentences were easy.
- DI had two sets in DILR where 1 set was easy and the other one was of Moderate difficulty level.
- LR also had two sets in the DILR section. 1 set was medium to difficult while the other one was easy to moderate.
- Most questions in the DILR section were of Bargraph, relationships and arrangements.
- QA had 22 questions on Arithmetic, 5 on Algebra, 3 on Geometry and 4 on Modern Maths.

Highlights:
- The overall difficulty level of RCs in Slot 2 of CAT 2021 was again difficult. One RC based on the decline of language was easy, one on the relationship between power and truth was moderate while the other 2 RCs on Nationalism & Colonialism and Knowledge and Skepticism were difficult.
- DILR had 4 sets where 3 were easy and 1 LR set was difficult. DI had 10 questions and similarly, LR had 10 questions.
- In the QA section, 9 questions were of Arithmetic, 5 of Algebra, 3 Geometry, 3 of Modern Maths and 2 of Numbers.

Highlights:
- The RCs in the VARC section were difficult. 2 RCs on Nanoparticles and Time-keeping were of moderate difficulty level whereas the other two on Language is an instinct and unconsciousness & psychoanalysis were difficult.
- Verbal Ability had 8 questions with 3 on para jumbles, 2 on out of context sentences and 3 on para summaries. All of them had moderate difficulty levels.
- DI & LR had 10 questions each with a total of 4 sets in DILR. One set in DI (Bar-graph) was easy while the other (throwing-distances) was difficult. 1 set (question creators) in LR was moderate to difficult and the other one (pure & impure mixture detection) was difficult.
- QA section saw 10 questions from Arithmetic, 4 from Algebra, 3 from Geometry, 4 from Modern Maths & 1 from Numbers.
