CAT 2023: Approximately 2.88 Lakh aspirants appeared for the Common Admission Test 2023 (CAT 2023) conducted by IIM Lucknow on November 26, 2023. As per the media release, the overall attendance for this year's CAT was approximately 88%. The total number of registered candidates was 3.28 lakh. The CAT 2023 exam was held in computer-based test mode at 375 test centers across 167 cities in the country. Overall, the level of difficulty for all the slots was moderate to difficult compared to last year, CAT 2023 was a bit difficult.
The exam had a sectional time limit of 40 minutes (for PWD candidates it was 53 minutes and 20 seconds). No change in the paper pattern was observed in CAT 2023. Find the table below representing the CAT 2023 section-wise breakup and questions asked in the examination.
Section | No. of questions |
Section I: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC) | 24 |

Section III: Quantitative Ability (QA) | 22 |
Total | 66 |
This year, 4 Reading Comprehensions were asked in the verbal ability section which were quite easy to read. The surprising factor in QA was it was dominated by Algebra rather than Aritematic and questions were lengthy and a bit time-consuming. DILR had 4 Sets comprising of 5 questions each which were of moderate to difficult level. The conducting body is soon going to publish the provisional answer keys at iimcat.ac.in. based on which candidates can examine their performance and obtain tentative CAT 2023 scores.
