CAT 2023 Slot 1 Question Paper Analysis: For the academic year 2023-24 admissions to MBA courses, CAT 2023 was carried out on November 26, 2023. Due to the high number of registrations, the exam was conducted in three slots with the same paper pattern. The initial morning slot was scheduled from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM and now, a complete section-wise analysis of the paper is provided here. The analysis is based on the student reviews as well as subject expert opinions.

CAT 2023 Slot 1 Analysis: First reactions by candidates

The gist of the reviews obtained from the candidates who took the CAT 2023 Slot 1 examination are outlined here:

  • VARC was doable.
  • Algebra dominated the entire paper is slot 1.
  • Questions from Algebra were a bit more time-consuming.
  • In QA 7-8 questions were doable.
  • A question from Mean, Median, and Mode was asked based on range.
  • Questions from Arithematic were fewer compared to Algebra.
  • As per candidates, no change in the question paper pattern was found in CAT 2023 slot 1 exam.
  • Para summary from Journalism and colonialism was asked.
  • In DILR, two sets were doable, and the third was a bit time-consuming.
  • No graph-based questions were asked in the paper.
  • Overall the exam was moderate to attempt.
  • In VARC total of 4 Reading Comprehensions were asked.
  • Passage related to Sabini and the Indian Ocean was asked. One passage on Literature was tricky.
  • Passage from Wolves was easy.
  • 4 TITA questions were asked.
  • In quants, PYQs were there.
  • Compared to the previous year, the paper was on the tough side for CAT 2023 slot 1.
  • DILR comprised 4 sets of 5 questions each which were moderate to difficult.

Note: 2 RC's were doable and 2 were a bit difficult to read. Overall Verbal was doable and on average candidates must have attempted 11-12 questions easily. No surprise or different questions were seen in the paper.

  • Clocks and Calendars 1 question
  • Set 1: Professors and Departments (Moderate)
  • Set 2: VISA Office (Moderate)
  • Set 3: Statistics based (Moderate to Difficult)
  • Set 4: Arrangement (Moderate)
  • TITA Questions: 7-8
Note: Overall the language in LRDI was a bit complex. Students who could read it easily might have cracked the sets easily. No change in pattern in sets was observed. Selection of a correct Set was crucial to attain good scores.
QA
  • Algebra (8-7 questions)
  • Arithmetic (6- 7 questions)
  • Number System (2-3 questions)
  • Modern Math (1 AP question)
  • Geometry (2-3 questions)
  • Mixture and Allegation
  • Quadratic Equation
  • Modulus
  • In a single question, both Simple Interest and Compound Interest were asked.
Note: 1 question from Clock was asked which was surprising for candidates. In Algebra questions were from Function, Identity, Logarithm, Time and Work, Profit and Loss, and Harmonic mean.
