IIM Entrance Exam – CAT 2019 (Common Admission Test) has witnessed almost a 50% rise in female candidates in the last six years. The number of girls appearing for CAT exam has been increasing every year and the number of female candidates who registered for CAT 2019 was highest in the last six years. This year, 85,810 girls registered for CAT while the number of registrations was 56,409 in 2013. C
The major reason for the surge in female registrations for CAT exam is IIMs new policy of reserving seats for women candidates and non-engineers. As IIMs are aiming to make each batch diverse, more women are being encouraged to take up PG management courses in Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). With IIM Kozhikode announcing the CAT 2019 results on January 4, 2020, we hope for a woman topper in 2019! As per the latest update, 10 candidates have secured a perfect 100 percentile of the 2,09,926 candidates that took the exam in 2019. And all of them belong to the Engineering & Technology background. And all of them are male candidates. Maharashtra hit the jackpot with 4 candidates scoring 100 percentile, followed by 1 each from Jharkhand, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand & West Bengal.
Despite Six-Year High, Women's Registration Less Than 40%
The registration of women candidates in the CAT 2019 has gone up to over a six-year high with around 85, 810 candidates applying for the test. Despite the rise, females still mark around 35.14 percent of the total applicants out of 2.44 lakh.
However, this is much less than the IIMs target of maintaining a gender-balance at campuses. Apart from females, the number of transgender candidates has also seen a minor hike from last year’s four to this year’s six applicants at IIMs.
