Although the results for Class 10 and Class 12 have been announced by the majority of state and central boards, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has not yet announced its results. CBSE is expected to first announce class 12 results by July end, and then class 10 results by August first week, but the exact date for each test has not yet been announced.

There has been news that CBSE has asked the UGC, as well as several state governments, to hold their admission processes while it releases the results. There are also reports that the CISCE's ISC or class 12 results have been put on hold.

But what are the reasons behind the longer wait for CBSE students? In comparison with UP Board and Rajasthan Board which both have nearly 50 lakh students, why has CBSE not released its results for only 35 lakh students?

A bifurcated examination system has been introduced by CBSE this year, with each semester having 50% of the total syllabus.  While the pandemic threat loomed, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh Boards kept conducting annual board exams. Therefore, they did not change the way they calculate results this year. Comparatively to CBSE, Punjab Board, CISCE, etc., have much fewer students.

More than two crore answer booklets of students have to be evaluated by CBSE. Class 12 students will have 114 subject combinations and class 10 students will have 74 subject combinations. It is being checked twice this year, along with the results for terms 1, 2, and internals. Students who did not take either term will also have their marks computed differently since they could not take both.

Many evaluation centers have been set up by CBSE to check answer scripts. As compared to earlier, there are more evaluation centers now. The copy will be checked by one person and then inter-checked by the evaluators. In this way, error-free totalling and calculation will be ensured. The board claims that it follows these practices in order to achieve a 100% accuracy rate.
