CBSE Chairman: Class 10 Board Exams to be reinstituted from 2018

Rajesh Chaturvedi, Chairman of CBSE informed that the Class 10 board examinations will be reintroduced from 2018 as many experts, as well as parents, favor the opinion.

The chairman also said that that board can’t be revived in 2017 because there is a shortage of time but it will be back in the system by 2018. The step has been taken to improve the standard of education, he added.
Mr. Chaturvedi also informed that this matter will be discussed at the next education ministers’ conference under the guidance of the HRD ministry. The meeting will also be attended by representatives of ICSE and state boards.
Stating the importance of board exams, he said that students need to be equipped to write subjective answers instead of just being familiar with the multiple choice questions pattern.
Mr. Chaturvedi also emphasized on the need to incorporate a uniform mechanism for teachers’ recruitment in order to keep arbitrariness at bay. He said the current system of recruiting is not up to the marks as candidates are hired on the basis of convenience and suitability. He said that the board has been working to come up with a specific mechanism.

Apart from this CBSE will also be imparting focused training of secondary and higher secondary teachers for which they will collaborate with experts like Anand Kumar of Super 30.
He also said that the commercialization of school education need to be checked and states should focus on enhancing the quality of education provided at government schools.
