Recently, the Central Board of Secondary Education or CBSE has announced that the Class X board exams will be mandatory from the next academic session, i.e., 2017-18. However, the Class X exams are back with a ‘remodelled assessment structure’ which was announced by CBSE. The first batch will take exams in March 2018. As per new assessment structure, the students will have an internal assessment and board exams. The students will have to score 33% marks in each category to pass the examinations.

As per the remodelled assessment structure, the students will be marked on theoretical exam out of 80 marks, and the rest of the 20 marks will be for internal assessment. The internal assessment has been divided into three components, i.e., 10, 5 and 5 marks respectively. From the next academic session, there will take no school-based exams for Class 10 students, and it is mandatory for the students to pass in both internal assessment and board exams.

CBSE further announced that the schools have to evaluate each student out of 20 marks in a year. Additionally, the students will have to take mandatory periodic tests which will be conducted thrice in a year. The schools should also assess the students’ notebook submission, regularity, completion and neatness. The listening and speaking skills of the students will also be tested as a part of internal assessment. These skills carry five marks.

CBSE’s idea of re-introducing board exams for Class 10 received a positive response from various schools, students and parents.
