One of the data analysts claimed that the Central Board of Secondary Education or CBSE has not kept its promise of discontinuing the practice of inflating Class 12 results. An electrical engineer from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, Mr. Bhattacharya pointed that the results of around 25,000 students from 300 schools in Rajasthan and Gujarat indicate distortion.

Mr. Battacharya had made the similar kind of analysis in the year 2013 and pointed that CBSE and ICSE misused the moderation policy to inflate the marks of their students. With the policy of CBSE, a high number of students secured 95 percent in Class 12.

After CBSE declared Class 12 results on May 28, 2017, Mr. Bhattacharya carried out the similar analysis on the results of 25,000 students in 170 schools of Rajasthan and 139 in Gujarat. According to his analysis, a high number of students scored 95% in Physics, Mathematics, Economics and Chemistry. He termed the current scenario as abnormal.

This year, the total number of students scoring 95 percent or above increased by 740 compared to the previous year. However, the number of students scoring 90-95 percent has been decreased to 63,347 from 63,387. However, he was of the opinion that CBSE resorted to inflation and distortion.

Explaining about the previous year scenario, Mr. Bhattacharya mentioned that CBSE had awarded 16 additional marks in Mathematics, and the students securing 90-95 percent were high. However, CBSE might have awarded around five to seven additional marks this year. Therefore, the number of students who scored 90-95% is less.

As per the sample analysis of Mr. Bhattacharya, a total number of 1,142 students out of 11,141 students in Mathematics, 1,231 out of 13,966 in Chemistry, 941 out of 13,973 in Physics and 429 out of 10,343 in Economics score 95 percent or above this year.
