<p>The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked all 1600 affiliated schools to conduct mock parliament in schools as to improve the debating skills of the students which will also commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar.
The debate is opened to students of class XI and XII. The teachers have to familiarise students about the Constituent Assembly debates held between 1946 and 1950 and will have to identify the issues that are relevant in the current socio-political context.
The board has also directed the schools to choose a venue to hold the sessions.
As per the board’s directions, the school heads along with the teachers and the students will have to visit the Parliament or state Assembly to watch debates.
The board has also given a list of topics that could be debated, such as the government’s plans to enforce tribal rights through appropriate interventions and while retaining and preserving their cultural ethos; redefining the basis for reservation to ensure balance, equity and inclusiveness in the areas of health, education and employment opportunities; free speech; women reservation; capital punishment; invent in human resources, youth employment; and consumerism.
The school heads believe that such debates will especially help the students of the government schools where debates are not a regular phenomenon.
