The Central Board of Secondary Education or CBSE is planning to conduct final exams for Class 10 & Class 12 on the same dates in two shifts. The proposal of CBSE regarding this will reduce the examination period and will give extra time to teachers to check the answer scripts thoroughly. CBSE has prepared a plan for conducting the final exams on the same dates after interacting with principals of various renowned schools in Delhi and other cities. However, CBSE will take the final decision only after reviewing the suggestions made by two-panel committees. The committees will suggest possibilities and measures to improve the existing system.

CBSE is the largest school board in the country with 18,000 schools affiliated to it. Usually, the examinations begin from March 1 and the exams run for close to 45 days. CBSE prepares separate timetables for the two classes every year.

According to the proposed plan, CBSE would like to conduct Class 12 examination in the morning session and Class 10 exams in the afternoon session. The new proposal will reduce the overall duration of the final examinations. So far, CBSE has not conducted exams in the afternoon session ever.

The reduction in overall examination days will help the evaluators to check the answer scripts with utmost care and the results will be continued to be declared in May. This year, teachers were not given enough time to check the answer scripts thoroughly as a result of which there were huge totalling errors.

The recent interaction of CSBE with the principals of various schools turned out to be fruitful. A selected few of them were against the rechecking or re-evaluation of answer sheets. They expressed their views on the CBSE’s new proposal and assured that they will send best teachers for evaluation. Principals also suggested CBSE to increase the remuneration of evaluators by at least 20%.

With an objective to maintain efficiency in the evaluation process, CBSE is also looking to reduce the number of answer scripts evaluated by a person in six hours.
