CBSE to Modify Class 10th and 12th Exam Pattern by 2023
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) would introduce major changes in the question paper pattern for class 10th and 12th by 2023 to boost critical, creative and analytical thinking.
In order to enhance critical, creative and analytical thinking, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) would commence major changes in the question paper pattern for class 10th and 12th by 2023.
The Secretary of CBSE Anurag Tripathi believes that it is imperative to the future of the country. He said so at the summit on school education conducted by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM). He added that this year class 10 and 12 question papers would be based on 20% objective questions and students would get 10% on creative thinking. By 2023, these question papers will focus on creative, critical and innovative thinking. A major change that can be expected is that 20 per cent of the questions in theory papers of objective type questions including multiple-choice questions. And, there will be 20 per cent and 10 per cent case-based or source-based integrated questions for classes 9-10 and 11-12 respectively. The case-based or source-based integrated questions were started in 2019-2020 for classes 9-10 but the percentage share of this section wasn't there then.

The schooling system needs to ensure proper bonding and linkages among the main stakeholders comprising teachers, infrastructure, students and parents, he said. In addition, he urged schools should give more time to teachers to be trained and groomed for three to six months for them to become highly skilled communicators, mentors with enough emotional balance and critical thinking.
This new education policy is directed at bridging the gap between vocational and main subjects. It has advocated that vocational subjects should be a part of the five subjects. The new education policy also pays attention to teacher training, childhood care, promotion of vocational education.
Biswajit Saha, the CBSE Director (Training & Skill Education) stated that the Indian schooling system should be based on the capability of students and not just their employability. It must be children-centric and should implement a project-based and adaptive way of learning.

He further said that there is always enough room to include activity-based curriculum and the mindset of students and what they require should be kept in mind to ensure flexibility in the system.
Upgrading the system cannot be done without competency-based education and a strong relationship with the child, he added. This is pertinent that school-level learning be made a two-way street where both parties interact and have fun.
