CBSE has rolled back the idea to implement double-encrypted question papers for Class 10 & Class 12 board exams 2019. The board has officially confirmed that double-encrypted question papers for CBSE board exams 2019 shall be implemented only in case of emergency. These encrypted question papers will be used as a backup. Therefore, for CBSE board exams 2019, the conventional hard copy of question papers will be used, which means the question papers will be distributed in the online mode.

In 2018, CBSE has successfully tested the implementation of double-encrypted question paper for board exams last year. As per the new system, the question papers shall be printed at the exam centres 30 minutes ahead of the exam. Due to logistical issues, CBSE double-encrypted question papers will not be implemented for CBSE board exams 2019.

Last year, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) experimented an online mechanism for processing and receiving question papers. The new mechanism will be considered as an alternative arrangement for the distribution of question papers. After figuring out the outcomes of the new system, CBSE directed all the affiliated schools in Kerala to remain on high alert since the new system is being experimented for at least three days. CBSE had taken this move a day after cancelling the Class 10 Maths and Class 12 Economics exam due to paper leak.

Various school managements in Kerala were pushed into nervousness after they received an urgent communication from CBSE regarding the implementation of the online mechanism for receiving and processing question papers. The board directed the schools to be ready with a prescribed set of machines to hold this online experiment. CBSE’s idea was to figure out whether the re-exam could be conducted immediately in case of question paper leak.

The mock drill on the online mechanism was conducted on March 29, 2018. However, many schools in rural areas are not happy with the CBSE’s move. For instance, a few schools in rural or remote regions do not have accessibility to the internet. Without internet connection and heavy-duty printers, the implementation of the online system is not possible.

Until March 31, 2018, the board had tried various modes of online question paper distribution. Several schools criticised CBSE for conducting these mock drills on Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter.
