The latest decision of CBSE will turn out to be beneficial for expatriate students coming to the native country. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has eased the norms for the admission of expatriate students in schools affiliated to the board. Initially, CBSE Regional Office in Kerala will take a call on it.

Under ‘Fly to Kerala’ initiative, CBSE schools across the state are free to admit Gulf-returnee students up to the month of November every year. For this purpose, schools need not obtain permission from CBSE regional office. However, if schools want to admit students after November, prior permission from CBSE is mandatory.

Usually, April 15 is the last date for completing admission procedures by all the schools affiliated to CSBE in the state. The strict compliance of the deadline used to cause greater difficulties for students and parents who return from abroad, particularly from Gulf countries.

This year, many parents have approached CBSE regional office seeking guidance for the admission to CBSE schools. The major problem that is being faced by the parents is that the Gulf countries follow a different academic schedule, and April 15 deadline in CBSE schools is a major challenge for those seeking transfer to schools in India. Therefore, the board has decided to relax the norms for such students in CBSE schools.

Even though the official circular mentioned only those students coming from Gulf countries, the norms are applicable to all students coming from abroad. The CBSE regional office in Kerala has also appointed coordinators for providing guidance to parents and schools regarding admission to expatriate students.
