The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has been working on an online system to make sure that students will be allocated examination centres within eight kilometres of their schools. As per sources, the board is in the process of providing information related to exam centres for board exams, JEE Main, NEET and National Eligibility Test (NET) online.

For this purpose, the board had asked all the schools across the country for disclosures about the current infrastructure which enables transparency in the system. Currently, there is no method of mapping this information online.

Currently, the CBSE is looking at allocating centres within an 8km radius of schools so that students need not travel long distances. On the other hand, for the other competitive exams, the closest centre will be allocated.

One of the senior officials mentioned that once the board is aware of the infrastructure that is present in the schools, it will be mapped online which would enable the board to allocate centres automatically. The highlight of the system is, it would prompt the officials if the examination centre is more than 8-10 km radius.

The proposed system will avoid the need for searching or physically checking the centre before the examination. So far, 2,000 private schools out of 14,000 have submitted all the information to the CBSE. The schools which are yet to submit the information have to do it on or before November 30, 2016. A total number of 3,000 schools have updated information about infrastructure.

Th official also stated that the students could locate the centres on the GPS maps in their mobile phones and to view its facilities. The online system maps various facilities in the examination centre like toilets, drinking water and furniture.

As per affiliation rules, the schools have to submit an annual report to CBSE regarding details of infrastructure and teachers.
