Educational qualification:
All aspiring candidates must possess a Master's degree in the field they want to apply for or any degree relevant to the field from a recognized university or institute.
Candidates awaiting the result of their final year or those who are currently in final year may also apply for the exam.

Age limit:
- Junior Research Fellowship: Age required for this post is maximum 28 years.
- Assistant Professor: no age bar has been set in order to apply for the post of Assistant Professor.
Exam Details:
- CBSE UGC NET is held to test the ability of Indian students who aspire to become Assistant Professor or Junior Research Fellowship on the basis of their performance in the test.
- The exam tests the students across all the subjects that they have studied in their graduation and post-graduation programs.
- Applicants who clear the exam for the award of Junior Research Fellowship are eligible to venture into research in their major subject that they had opted for in post-graduation. They are also eligible for the post of Assistant Professor.
