Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Mr. Rajiv Pratap Rudy clarified that Industrial Training Institutes or ITIs would soon have an independent central board of certification. The board will further grant students certificates on finishing school at Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). The move will eliminate the stigma around vocational education, he added.

Mr. Rudy also indicated that the government has already given the nod to set up central certification board for awarding equivalent certificates to students. He pointed that ITIs would reform its structure, syllabus, curriculum and assessments at par with the standards of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Indian School Certificate Examinations (ISCE). The move taken by the government will help the students of ITIs to take up regular courses in colleges. Mr. Rudy pointed that the idea was a bring mobility between formal and vocational education systems.

A few days back, Mr. Rudy announced that the Directorate General of Training was assigned the responsibility of conducting examinations for 23 lakh students in Industrial Training Institutes at matriculation, secondary and higher secondary levels. Students who qualify or clear the examinations will be awarded certificates. Ministry of Human Resource and Development had played a significant role in this regard.

The ministry has been taking extensive steps to improve the quality of ITI education across the country. Among all the states, the demand for ITI courses has been high in Maharashtra. In the year 2017, ITIs recorded a higher number of applicants than polytechnics in the state. Maharashtra also bagged the top spot in terms of skill development.
