Centre Approves Setting Up of Tribal University In Andhra Pradesh
Union Cabinet has approved the setting up of Central Tribal University in Andhra Pradesh. The Central Tribal University will help in the overall development of the backward regions of the state.
The Union Cabinet has given the green signal for the establishment of Central Tribal University in Andhra Pradesh. The Cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 8th November 2018 approved the setting up of Central Tribal University in Andhra Pradesh in Relli village of Vizianagaram District.
The tribal university will be established under the Thirteenth Schedule to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014. Apart from this, the Cabinet will also grant funds of Rs. 420 crore in the first phase of expenditure for the establishment of the Central Tribal University.

Ravi Shankar Prasad, Justice Minister informed that the proposed university will be established after the amendment in the Central Universities Act.
The Central Tribal University will help in the overall development of the backward regions of the state and through this everyone will have access to higher education.

It will provide the tribals of the state with an access to higher education and will also help in conducting research in the tribal culture, art and economy. The varsity will be functional from 2019-20 academic year with an approximate student strength of 250. The student strength will move up to 4,000 students in the next 7 years.
