Centre Plans to Create Accreditation Centres in IIMs & IITs: HRD Ministry
With an objective to assess the working of colleges/ universities/ institutes, the government will set up accreditation centres at these premier institutes.
Ministry of Human Resouce and Development revealed that the Central Government is planning to create accreditation centres in the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
Replying to a question in Lok Sabha, Mahendra Nath Pandey, Minster of State for HRD indicated that the government has plans to speed up the accreditation process. The government is planning to set up reliable accreditation centres in IITs & IIMs, and the government is trying to figure out various possibilities in this regard.

With an objective to assess the working of colleges/ universities/ institutes, the government will set up accreditation centres at these premier institutes. The assessment will be done on lines of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and National Board of Accreditation (NBA). These centres will also mentor the institutions which come under their jurisdiction to take part in the accreditation process.

Earlier, Prakash Javadekar, HRD Minister announced that accreditation centres would come up in IIMs & IITs to reduce the burden of NAAC. He indicated that on an average NAAC is working to accredit 1,000 institutes in one year, and it takes around 38 years to complete the accreditation of all the institutes in India. Hence, the ministry plans to set up accreditation centres in premier institutes so that the process of accrediting all the institutes can be completed in a decade.
He also announced that the institutes which are performing exceptionally well in all parameters would be granted more autonomy and these institutes will have fewer regulations.
