Centre Sanctions Funds for Digital Library Project
The officials of the ministry said that a sum of Rs. 48.75 crore have been sanctioned for the second phase of NDL project.
The Ministry of Human Recourses has sanctioned the second phase of funds for the National Digital Library project. It is aimed to build a virtual repository of learning resources. It also includes single-window search facility.
The officials of the ministry said that a sum of Rs. 48.75 crore has been sanctioned for the second phase of NDL project. The second phase of the project will start from January. An establishment of a user base is being planned with an estimated budget or Rs. 10 lakh. A content base comprising of 200 lakh materials will be set up. Around 1000 institutions will be participating in the second phase.

The officials of NDL mentioned that they are also planning to build a mobile app. Under the second phase, audio books, vernacular content and user interface for the differently abled users will also come into existence. The students of Class X to Class XII will be facilitated to find the content related to various subjects.

Under the first phase of NDL project, 230 institutions are participating in this mission. Around 50 lakh contents from various publishers are under process. These contents will be included by March 2017.
The first phase of NDL project will be completed by March 2018 and will overlap with the beginning of the second phase.
