In a recent notification released by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE), it has been announced that a new assessment scheme for evaluating the cancelled class 10 and 12 exams.CISCE has previously announced the cancellation of the leftover ICSE exams which had been scheduled between 1st July 2020 - 14th July 2020.

On 26th June 2020, the CISCE had assured the Supreme Court that a new assessment scheme will be devised and released within a week, during the hearing for a plea regarding cancellation f the board exams.

ICSE Class 10 and 12 Assessment Scheme (Cancelled Exams) 2020

As per the new assessment scheme, the CISCE will take into consideration a few parameters to gauge each student’s marks of the respective cancelled papers. The parameters defined by the council include the following:

  • The average of the marks of the three best board exam papers of a student.

  • Subject-wise internal marks/assessment (particular to class 10) / Subject-wise Project and Practical work

  • The Percentage of internal assessments for each subject (For ICSE) / Percentage for the project and practical work for each subject (for ISC)

As per the statement of the CISCE, the revised assessment scheme will include a component for internal assessment work better as a tool to gauge a student’s aptitude and calculate the average marks in the three best subjects, which will also help measure the academic ability of a student.

A detailed analysis had been carried out by the CISCE using data collected from the previous board examination from 2015 till 2019 along with the 2002 board examinations. Sources state that the factors and weightage for each factor had been decided with the objective of providing a level playing field to each candidate, who appeared in the ICSE Board Exams 2020.

For ISC students, the board stated that the same formula will be used to gauge the performance of the students in subjects such as Home Science, Biology, Psychology, Geography, and Sociology. Meanwhile, the formula has been slightly altered for the elective subjects of English and Arts papers.
