Class 8 Students of Bangalore Design Robot to Locate People Trapped in Disaster Zones
The main reason behind designing the robot is that these students were deeply moved by the earthquake that occurred in Nepal in the year 2015.
Anju Verma and Shlok Jhawar, Class 8 students who are pursuing their studies at Delhi Public School, Bangalore designed a robot which will help to locate the people who are trapped in disaster zones. The main reason behind designing the robot is that these students were deeply moved by the earthquake that occurred in Nepal in the year 2015. They felt sad that the rescue teams could not save many people who were trapped. In most of the cases, these rescue teams had risked their life and tried to save the people.

Deeply moved by this incident, the students have decided to create a robot which will help the rescue teams in tracing out the trapped victims in disaster zones. The students have been working for the past one and half year to create the robot and achieved success. They tested the robot, and it gave positive results. They named their recovery and surveillance robot as Recon Rover.
The robot consists of an infrared sensor which can pick up the presence of humans. It avoids obstacles through three ultrasonic sensors. It took one year and eight months to design the robot. They exhibited their plan to design the robot in the national instruments' annual design competition which took in 2015. The name of the competition is Niyantra 2015.

After getting the positive response for their plan in the competition, the students have decided to design the surveillance robot and made it possible.
When questioned about the aim of these two students, they revealed that they want to pursue robotics and engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
