Compared to the previous year, CLAT 2017 witnessed a 13 percent increase in the number of applications. Dr. A. Laxminath, Convener of CLAT 2017 revealed that around 51,000 applications have been received for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2017. Last year, a total number of 45,041 candidates applied for the national level law examination.

He was of the opinion that the reason for the increase in the number of applications was Supreme Court’s decision to put a stay on BCI’s age bar proposal. The decision of Supreme Court was a sigh of relief to the aspiring candidates who are above 20 years of age. Therefore, the number of applications have increased for CLAT UG programme.

Last year, out of 45,041 candidates who applied for CLAT examination, 23,517 were male candidates and 21,520 were female candidates. Interestingly, four students belonging to the transgender community also submitted the applications for CLAT UG programmes.

BCI issued an official notification regarding the same on November 10, 2017. In March 2017, the Supreme Court imposed a stay on BCI’s age criterion.

CLAT 2017 will be conducted in an online mode. The online process for CLAT 2017 concluded on March 31, 2017.
