CLAT 2018 Re-Test Not Possible: Supreme Court

On June 11, 2018, the Supreme Court of India clarified that conducting CLAT 2018 again is not possible, as it will disturb the ongoing admission process for law courses in universities/colleges that accept CLAT 2018 score.

The court further directed the students who faced technical glitches or lost time due to the same could forward their complaints to the Grievances Redressal Committee (GRC) set up by NUALS until June 15, 2018. Being the exam conducting authority, NUALS Kochi will look into the complaints so that it can apply the normalization formula to compensate time lost by the examinees during CLAT 2018 exam.

On the other hand, NUALS Kochi assured that students who suffered time loss due to the technical glitches during the CLAT exam will be awarded compensatory marks. While deciding on awarding the compensatory marks, the exam authority will take a note of data of totally incorrect and correct answers given by the students during the online exam.

As per the direction of Supreme Court, NUALS Kochi had constituted a two-member committee to look into the complaints raised by students.

During the arguments in the apex court, lawyers representing petitioners urged the court to order CLAT 2018 re-test, as GRC received close to 5,700 complaints. However, the court does not want those students who did not face any issues or technical glitches during the exam to suffer. Instead, the court directed NUALS Kochi to compensate the students who faced technical glitches. The court also refused to stay first round CLAT 2018 counselling process.
