CLAT 2020 Exam and Question Paper Analysis, Answer Key (Out) and Solutions

CLAT 2020 was conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities on September 28, 2020. The test timings were from 2 PM-4 PM and the exam was conducted for admission to the UG and PG law courses. Unlike last year, this year the exam was held through online computer-based and centre-based mode at 203 locations across the nation. The CLAT 2020 Final Answer Key and Provisional Answer Key for UG and PG courses have also been released by the Consortium of NLUs.

As per the students and expert review, the overall difficulty level of the exam was reported to be Moderate. Few candidates found the CLAT Question paper a little lengthy and time-consuming. Quantitative Techniques carried the minimum number of questions while the maximum number of questions were from Legal Reasoning and Current Affairs. 

Students were required to follow the safety protocols and maintain distance at all points of times. The CLAT 2020 Exam Pattern was revised and the Legal Aptitude section was replaced with Legal Reasoning and the total number of questions was also reduced to 150 from 200.

Detailed Section-Wise CLAT 2020 Question Paper Analysis

CLAT 2020 Question Paper Analysis for English Section

Below mentioned are the pointers discussing the questions that came up in the English section of CLAT 2020.

• The CLAT 2020 English section contained 30 questions with 6 passages. 

• The comprehension passages were based on Bois Locker Room Controversy, Virtual Reality and Climate Change. 

• Rest 3 questions were story-based. They included ‘The Cat’ by Mary Freeman, ‘The Night Came Slowly’ by Kate Chopin and ‘The Case for the Defence by ‘Graham Greene’.

• The passages were lengthy but they were not difficult to comprehend.

CLAT 2020 Question Paper Analysis for Current Affairs & General Knowledge

Provided below is the question paper analysis for the Current Affairs and the General Knowledge section of the CLAT exam.

• The Current Affairs & General Knowledge comprised 36 questions and 7 passages.
• The passages were based on National Educational Policy 2020, SAARC meeting, United Nations General Assembly and Rafale Deal.
• Few more passages were also based on Atmanirbhar Bharat, RBI Policy, Lipulekh Pass (Indo-Nepal) and UAE and Israel Relations.
• Candidates who were keeping a close eye on the current happenings and affairs did fairly well in this section.

CLAT 2020 Question Paper Analysis for Legal Reasoning

Given below is an analysis of the Legal Reasoning section in the CLAT 2020 exam.

• The Legal Reasoning section of CLAT 2020 had 39 questions in total. It had 8 passages.
• The questions were on Impact of COVID 19, issue of obscenity, Vizag gas leak, the principle of Natural Justice, the lynching of Palghar District, Article 20 (1): Ex post facto laws, Arnab Goswami vs Union of India and Common intention.
• Not a single knowledge-based question came in this section. They were mostly basic.

CLAT 2020 Question Paper Analysis for Logical Reasoning

• The Logical Reasoning section of CLAT 2020 consisted of 30 questions.
• 25+3 Questions were from Critical Reasoning while only 2 questions came from Analytical Reasoning.
• Critical Reasoning section had passages based on social journalism, the anti-alcohol movement, Class 12th CBSE result, work from home during corona pandemic and online classes.
• Rest 2 Analytical Reasoning questions were from coding-decoding and matrix puzzle.
• This section consumed a lot of time of the aspirants.

CLAT 2020 Question Paper Analysis for Quantitative Techniques

• The Quantitative Techniques section was not difficult.

• This section had 15 questions that were covered under 3 sets. Each set had 5 questions.

• They were based on Bar Graph, Table DI, Geometry/Mensuration.

• One set was reported to have incorrect questions.

CLAT 2020 Expected Cutoff

As per the experts, the expected CLAT cutoff will be around 87. Candidates can get admission in the top 3 NLUs if they score between 85- 87. Top 5 NLUs can be targeted if an applicant has obtained 83-85 while admission to the top 10 NLUs will require the candidates to score between 80 to 82.

Aspirants must note that there will be no sectional cut-off in the CLAT 2020. However, the number of good attempts in each section would play a major role in determining the final score of the applicant. Check the ideal attempts for each section below.

CLAT 2020 Answer Key and Solutions

The Answer Key is a great tool to analyse the performance and calculate the estimated overall score and rank. To predict the rank, aspirants can also check out the CLAT Rank Predictor.  3 questions and 1 question was found incorrect in CLAT UG and CLAT PG respectively and they were dropped off from the CLAT 2020 final answer key. CLAT UG result will be evaluated from 147 and CLAT PG result is supposed to be calculated from 119. The keys of the four answers were changed in CLAT UG while for CLAT PG none were altered.
