Cleanliness Ambassadors to Promote Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in Schools

The government has found another way to promote Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in schools. The CBSE is to appoint a cleanliness ambassador in schools which is expected to lay down guidelines to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. All this will be done under the new Swachh Vidyalaya programme and will cover all schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Moreover, the committees are supposed to get teachers and students to monitor cleanliness and hygiene in the institution. CBSE also plans to send a toolkit containing a list of instructions to help the SAC function effectively. In January, schools were asked to administer a swachhata pledge during the assembly and promise to keep their surroundings clean.

Deepa Sridhar of Sri Kumaran Public School said the institution carries out a cleanliness campaign at the end of every term.

J. Anantha Padmanabhan, principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya, M.G. Railway Colony, said that the committee comprises two teachers and six students. Besides this, each class has a cleanliness monitor to ensure that the classroom is kept clean.

“Members of the committee go all around the campus three times a day and report to the teacher at the end of every day. If there is a need to set anything right, they talk to the housekeeping staff and ensure that it is done,” he said.
