CM Patnaik Lays Foundation Stone of New Odia University
Odisha CM laid the foundation stone for the new Odia University. The varsity will offer M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes in Odia language.
Naveen Patnaik, Odisha Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the establishment of Odia University on 9th October 2018 at Sakhigopal in Puri district, Odisha.
The proposed university will be a regional language university that will offer higher education courses such as M.Phil and Ph.D. in Odia language. The main agenda behind this is to promote and preserve Odia language across the country. The varsity will also conduct research on different aspects of the Odia language.
In the past, Odia language had the status of a classical language same as Sanskrit, Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu and Tamil.

During the event, Patnaik expressed his happiness regarding the establishment of Odia University. He further said that the varsity will help revive the language and bring back the glory of the past as it was regarded as one of the classical languages and its history as old as Sanskrit. Apart from this, he also paid floral tribute to the Panchasakha during the function.

The Odisha state government has allocated Rs.10 crore for the establishment of the university along with the 25 acres of land has also been granted. Many eminent personalities such as Maheshwar Mohanty, Revenue Minister, Pradeep Maharathy, Panchayati Raj Minister and few others attended the event.
