“I received my grant money only after eight months post joining the Ph.D programme. And after that, I was getting it every six months. These things lead to several issues, and often we have to borrow money from others,” complained Chiranjeevi Padala, a research scholar from the Department of Genetics, OU, who qualified for the Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship programme.
Mr. Padala, part of breast cancer research mentioned that he even failed to get the contingency fund on time, this amount is given to research scholars to take care of petty expenses.
Ambedkar, a research scholar from the Geography Department in OU, alleged said “The varsity is failing in implementing UGC guidelines while releasing funds, as there is always a delay due to which students are troubled”.
Osmania University (OU) research scholars, who receive fellowship grants from the University Grants Commission, are very unhappy and are not at all satisfied.
Shyamala Nivas, another research scholar from the Department of Genetics, said “There is no fixed date when students receive their grant money. Hence, we are never able to plan anything on time. Money is never regular. Luckily, after the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) was introduced, it is slightly better,” he said.
From all this we can simply conclude that the committee needs to sort these problems out otherwise deserving people will continue to suffer.
